Favours, ponds, ditches, and garden ponds
It is on the wing from mid May to August.
Adult males will select a favourite perch in an
open sunny position, from which it will defend
its territory against other males.
A few specimens are seen on Slop Bog each year.
Look for them near the small ponds.
Migrant Hawker
It is on the wing from July to September.
It can be seen near ponds, lakes, canals, and slow
moving streams.
This rather uncommon dragonfly has been seen along
Kingfisher Creek,
And along near the boardwalk.
Common Darter
They occur, in ponds, lakes, rivers, and brackish
water.
It is on the wing from mid June to November.
On warm sunny days, it may be seen perched on the
twigs of trees and bushes.
It will also rest on the ground.
It is the most common of the several species of
dragonfly seen on Slop Bog.
Look for it along the boardwalk and on the new fences.
Large Red Damselfly
This damselfly is often widespread, and common.
Found at ponds, canals, ditches and acid bogs.
It is on the wing from May to early September.
It may be seen feeding in patches of sunlight in
woods, and along hedgerows.
Look for them along Kingfisher Creek and along the
edge of Hazel Wood.
Azure Damselfly
This very
common damselfly can usually be seen patrolling
around vegetation at the edges of ponds, lakes,
ditches and
slow-moving water. It is on the wing from
mid May to August.
At Slop Bog look for it along Kingfisher Creek
where it may
be seen resting on waterside plants.

Emerald Damselfly
Prefers
acid bog pools, but it also occurs around ponds,
ditches and lake margins.
Emergence begins in late June, and the flight
season lasts until September.
It is not very common at Slop Bog, but a few
are usually seen around the acid pools.
Demoiselle
This is a damselfly of fast-flowing rivers and
streams, which have a pebble or sandy bottom.
They are on the wing from the end of May to late
August.
Their large wings enable them to be carried quite
some distance from water.
At Slop Bog, a few have been seen near Dragonfly
Drop .
It could be that they come from the small boundary
stream.
